For the past week, I have been vacationing in San Diego and loving every second of my time there.
I left the morning after the reunion at the Camden Riversharks game and did not get a chance to thank all the brothers for their support. We could not have picked a better night for baseball and for looking at the scenery of sailboats on the river and the skyline City. Brothers arrived from as far west as San Francisco, as far east as Hong Kong, North--Bristiol, CT, and south, Margate, NJ. We has parents of alumni (Joe Rebl, Dan Dalton) and active brothers (just one active but it was a first), and one father-in law.
and box was crawling with former presidents from Mike Diccicco '71 to Baabi Felli '13.
The newbies turned out in force, and if anyone can tell you the score, they were the little kids who loved the game. They were certainly not the brothers who were busy bonding and busting.
The highlight of the evening came early when softball coach, Bill Davis dropped a softly hit foul ball. For shame. Coach DeBar would have caught the ball, but he was busy educating George Case about the Mighty Bonner Friars.

On the phone today, Geff "Doc" Kelly sounded very good, with a strong voice and good sense of humor in place. The surgery, while painfuil at times,went very well, There will be some lingering after effcts but the prognosis is great. Geff sends his thanks to the brothers for their thoughts and prayers.

Liturgy
In Wednesday, Fr. Jim Dever of University Ministry celebrated the liturgy in memory of Patricia Kenney '82 and Dennis Regan '84. The fraternity was represented by a group of alumni brothers: John Dougherty, Mike Fiorvanti, Mike Gallagher, and Jake Griffin,. Right after the Our Father, Pete D'Orazio and Ed Waddington offered a few memories of Trish and Dennis.

Mini Reunion
Last night thanks to the leadership of Kevin Core, several alums from the mid-1990s reunited for their annual Christmas celebration, this time at Ruth Crist's Steak House. With Kevin presiding, Eric Kern, Bob Donahue, Jim Doran, Mike Parkinson, Kevin Reddington, Bill Davis, Steve Ricketts, Brian O'Grady, and I gathered around the table for an evening of fraternity and La Salle memories, annual updating about everyone for that era, and, of course, plenty of talk about the Phillies and Eagles, though not much about Kevin's Kowboys. The troops were last seen heading off to a warm tavern to continue the symposium.

There are some good shots of the brothers and others enjoying our 75th anniversary celebration. There is also an article about John Persichetti '82, his career as a colorist of motion pictures, and his work with some of the name directors in Hollywood.

Alumni Interviewing High School Students
Several brothers including John Fenton, Chris Niwinski, Ed Waddington, Jerry Lezynski, and Jake Harris have been involved in the process of interviewing prospective La Salle students. Last week, Sean Hughes and I enjoyed the evening with six applicants. We lucked out. Each of them was excellent. We were especially struck by the emphasis these kids were placing on values and on being active contributor to life on campus.

Please continue to keep Pat Kenney and his family in your prayers. On Tuesday, Pat expressed his appreciation for our support. We will have a liturgy celebrated in the university chapel for Patricia Kenney '82.

On Friday night, Joe Rebl '89 will be performing at the Green Parrot in Newtown, Bucks County. Brothers are cordially invited to attend.

On Saturday, La Salle plays Oklahoma State at 1:00 at the Palestra. After the game, the brothers will meet at the Pour House, 38th and Chestnut Streets.

After a long battle with breast cancer, Patricia Kenny, wife of Pat Kenney '81, passed away last week. Please keep the Kenney family in your thoughts and prayers.

Patricia M. Kenney of Warrington passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was 50.
She was the beloved wife of Patrick Kenney with whom she had shared 21 years of marriage.
She was born in The Bronx, New York and was the daughter of James and Anne Lynch.
Patricia graduated from St. John Vianney High School and LaSalle College.
She was a devoted mother and wife who was dedicated to her children and husband. Patricia fought a courageous battle against breast cancer.
In addition to her husband, Patricia is survived by her three daughters, Kiera, Kayla and Corinne; sisters Alicia Cummings (John) and AnneMarie Sutton (Donald); and brothers Thomas Lynch (Shari), Brendan (Kathi) and Kieran. Patricia was surrounded by a wonderfully supportive community of family and friends for her entire life and throughout her illness.
Relatives and friends will be received by her family from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at St. Cyril of Jerusalem, 1410 Almshouse Road, Jamison, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, and are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Her interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetary, Warrington Township.

actives at homecoming

To the surprise of many, including the advisers, the actives showed at the 11:30 A.M. fraternity meeting on Saturday. Some were showing the scars of a Friday night party, but aided by come caffeine, they were wide awake and ready for action. The actives updated the alumni on the events of the past semester and exchanged ideas about the relationship of actives and alumni in the future.

At the basketball game, the fraternity welcomed Bro. Joe Juliano, President of the San Miguel School in Camden, and g five of his students. During a time out in the second half, President Dave Barba, and PHIve K Run organizers John Vitalo and Matt Nelsen presented the school with a check for $6500. Those three brothers deserve a a huge thanks from all of us for staging that event and for putting a template in place that will serve us well in the future. Thanks also to the present executive board and the active brothers who attended the game and welcomed the kids of San Miguel. It was also great seeing young alums and former president Joe Polizzi, Scott Gibney, and Craig Raezer hangin' in Hayman.

Two tables of brothers were at the annual Alpha Epsilon dinner on Friday nigh, there to join the celebration and to honor Marci Schankweiler. I may miss someone (please let me know) but those applauding Marc included: Mike Diccico, Jerry Lezynski, Ed Waddington, John Fenton, Dan Stecher, Chris Selgrath, and Tom McGinn as well as three actives: Dave Barba, Matt Nelsen, and John Vitalo.

On Saturday, Mike Dicco presided at a meeting of the fraternity and introduced the brothers to a new Facebook-like system being adopted by the university to facilitate communication among individual and among affinity groups like SigmaPhi Lambda Committee of Explorers ( the moniker for the newly formed alumni group of the fraternity).

Chris Niwinki, Chris Selgrath and Dan Stecher were there with potential pledges for the future. Jake Harris and Joe McMahn joined the group. Joe Rebl brought Joe III to the Homecoming lunch and Dan Sullivan showed up with Dan Jr, a sophomore at Conwell-Egan. Paul Coady, and Mike McGirney and his three kids were also there to watch the Explorers come back and beat Morgan State.

On Friday evening Marci became the first woman alum ever to receive the university's Signum Fidei Award. With family, friends, and fellow alums surrounding her, Marci gave a moving acceptance talk thanking the many folks, including the brothers of Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity, who have helped support Crossing the Finish Line. She also addressed the undergraduates urging them to have faith in themselves, in the community around them, and in their God. Few speakers have more credibility on that topic.

In Saturday, Marci switched hats for her visit to Hayman Hall as honorary coach of the Explorers and climaxed a great weekend with a win over Morgan State.

Congratulations to our brother Marci. She honors any award and any group with whom he she is associated. Nice going, Coach.

Donations in Dennis Regan’s Name toward a Rowing Shell in his Honor

As many of you know, Dennis Regan '84 had a passion for life, his family, friends and brothers of Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity. We will all miss Dennis for his funny stories, zany limericks and most notable his everlasting smile and twinkle in his eye (which always made us wonder what he was up to!). Dennis made a lasting and loving impression on everyone who knew him.

Now it is our turn. In the spirit of brotherhood and lasting memory of Dennis, Sigma Phi Lambda would like to raise funds toward another love in Dennis’ life -- the Rowing Team of La Salle University. Monies raised will be used toward a rowing shell that will be christened in his name this coming spring. Already a dozen brothers have given $100 each and helped launch this drive.

The Signum Fidei Award recognizes someone (rarely an alum) for significant service to the community. For the past ten years, Marci' and her organization, Crossing the Finish Line, have helped hundreds of families who are coping with a cancer.
Last summer Major League Baseball honored Marci at the All Star Game; Friday night La Salle and Sigma Phi Lamdba will welcome her back to campus. Please join us as well celebrate Marci and CFL.

75 years ago on this very day our fraternity began its life and by and by, ours within its bonds. I shudder to think of the vacuum on the La Salle campus and in my life that would be there without our fraternity.
If you have a glass handy raise it high in memory of John Guischard and the intrepid Founding Fathers who forged the fraternity, of Tom Lynch and the C.O.E. brothers who gallantly revived it and of all of the rest of us who have shaped its course and been so much shaped by it and our brotherhood. In regal splendor there she still stands.

In addition to teaching his computer and video classes at La Salle High, Rob has been busy raising his twins, still not a year old. How he found time to compile, edit, and score the show is a mystery, alright a miracle.

As you all know, our brother Dennis Regan '84 died suddenly last week, and he was laid to rest on Tuesday. The outpouring of affection and love for Dennis was overwhelming as was the care and support showed to his wife and family.
. Thousands of people came to the viewing on Monday night, and the viewing and Mass on Tuesday also packed St . Cecilia's Church. Many brothers attended, at least fifteen on Tuesday alone. Both Dennis' brother Tim '86 and his closest friend Jim Waddington gave very moving eulogies recalling the Dennis stories, his love of a good time, his loyalty and love for his wife Marie, his family and friends, and the kind of humility that praised everyone but himself. Tim and Jim also reflected on the light and lightness that Dennis brought to a sometimes dark world. Their tributes were worthy of the man we knew and loved. Rest in peace, Dennis.

1. We need runners and walkers for the First Annual Sig PhiveK. The actives are working very hard to make this event a success. Please support them in this fundraiser for the San Miguel School in Camden. The race is this Saturday. Registration time 9:00 to 10:00. Starting time is 10:00. Bill Smart, Joe Polizzi, Scott Gibbney, and Corey Percival will be at the starting line.

2, Save the date. On Friday, Nov 19 the alumni association will present its Signum Fidei Award to our brother Marci Schankweiler. Honorary degrees aside, this is the most prestigious award that La Salle can bestow and is rarely given to an alum. The last one I can recall is another Sig Phi brother, Dr. Joseph Flubacher. We are hoping to have special tables for the fraternity so we can celebrate all the generous achievements of Marci and Crossing the Finish Line. Plan to be there.

3. Please offer a prayer of Thanksgiving for Eric Toppy. A week ago, a dump truck smashed into Eric's car sending it spinning out of control. Thank God, it did not spin into oncoming traffic. The rescue squad extricated Eric and advised him that few drivers survived the kind of crash. Physically, Eric is coming along very well, but emotionally, well he could use some bonding and maybe even gentle busting. Let's keep him and his family in our prayers.

4. Nice story. President Dave Barba '11 wrote to his former freshman homeroom Brother at La Salle High and asked if the school and the brothers would support the Phive K. Bro. Jim Reick and the brothers community responded with a check for $500. It's great seeing the Brothers helping a brother to help the Brothers and the kids at San Miguel. Nice going, Dave

Alumni and Friends,

As an alumni of Lambda and a board member of San Miguel of Camden I am excited to announce The First Annual Sig Phive K! With all proceeds benefiting the San Miguel School of Camden, I hoping we can count on a great turn out from our alums, their family and friends.

With the planning in place we are looking forward to this being a huge success. In order for that to occur we need the support of alumni both as sponsors and participants. The run will be held on October 30, 2010 race starts at 10:00 am registration will be from 8:00 to 9:45. The course will be held within LaSalle's campus so a fast, flat track will accommodate all levels of participants. The actives have been hard at work putting this together with your help, by participating in the event and/or sponsoring will certainly help to ensure success. We have created additional awards for the fraternity(awards to be distributed for top alumni and actives) to keep the competitive juices flowing beyond bragging rights.

I think a post race party will be in order for those who want to partake.
As we get closer to the event we will provide details as to what watering hole will have the pleasure of our company.

Anna Bodisch Anna Bodisch, 87, formerly of Coplay, passed away September 26 in Richmond, Virginia. She was married to the late Richard J. Bodisch. Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Grohotolsky)Yandrasits.
She was an assembler for the former Western Electric Co., Allentown for 20 years retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Coplay and its Altar & Rosary Society. She assisted the church in making pierogies. Anna enjoyed cooking and baking, including making treats for her adoring granddog Tommy. She was the state winner for Pennsylvania in the National Chicken Cooking Contest and a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-off.
Survivors: Son, Gerald R. Bodisch, and his wife, Patty, of Bethesda, MD; daughter, Kathleen B., wife of Richard Lynch, of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Meghan, David, Gregory; brothers, William Yandrasits, of Coplay, Joseph Yandrasits, of Catasauqua. She was predeceased by brothers, John and Frank.

Alumni of Sigma Phi Lambda

Dear Brothers

Another year has begun at LaSalle University and it is looking like it is going to be a busy one for Sigma Phi Lambda. To start things off, I regret to inform you that we were unable to get pledges for this fall semester. We had a great Rush Week with a lot of turnouts from freshmen but very few sophomores. We gave out a handful of bids, but unfortunately no one accepted. Although it's never a good thing to go a semester without pledges, I feel that this may be a blessing in disguise.
With no pledges this semester, we will be able to focus our efforts on recruiting freshmen for the spring. It has always been hard to recruit freshmen during the fall because we are so busy with the pledge period. But, seeing as how we don't have any pledges, most of our attention will be on recruiting freshmen. We are planning on continuing the tradition of having "associates" which does not really mean much for us, but will give the freshmen a feeling that they are a part of something and will hopefully make them want to pledge in the spring.

We will also be focusing on increasing our service activities. We were supposed to have a "Street Clean-Up" this past weekend, but due to inclement weather we were forced to postpone the activity. We have incorporated a mandatory 8 hours of service for each brother than can be accomplished through various acts.
Also, PJ Manesis is spearheading a campaign to get as many of our guys as well as other greeks to help out at the rec center on Chew Ave during the week.

This semester we will also be having the "Sig Phive K" which will benefit the San Miguel School, one of our most important philanthropies. The event is scheduled for October 30th. The race will be a 5K run on LaSalle's campus and will promote the San Miguel School, Sigma Phi Lambda, and LaSalle University in general.
If you would like to make a donation to the cause, you can make a check out to Sigma Phi Lambda with San Miguel as the designation. If your business would like to sponsor the event, we will have different tiers of sponsorship that I will explain to you in a follow-up e-mail.

Obviously, the active fraternity could use as much financial support as possible from our alumni. If you would like to make a donation to the fraternity, you can make a check out to Sigma Phi Lambda and designate the donation for whatever you want (San Miguel, new jackets, general donation, etc.). With all of your generous donations at the 75th Anniversary celebration, we were able to raise a little over $1200 for the fraternity which was used to help cover the cost of our Spring Formal and our composites. I would like to thank you all again for coming out for that weekend and keeping up the tradition of generosity in Sigma Phi Lambda.

This will be my last semester as president and also my last year at LaSalle. Although we don't have pledges this semester, I promise to do everything I can to make this the best year Sig Phi has ever seen and hopefully get the biggest spring pledge class in recent memory. I know I speak on behalf of all the brothers when I say that the year of our 75th Anniversary WILL be the most successful year for Sigma Phi Lambda.

Crossing the Finish Line Annual Golf Tournament

Witness a Moving Testimony at CFL's Annual Golf Tournament on 10/4/10.

In October 2006, Rafael Gonzalez traveled with his wife, Oi Yin, and their two children, Sienna and Derek, to the CFL home near Orlando, Florida.
Soon after the respite, Rafael passed away. Prior to his passing he said, "This respite provided me and my family with the time to build lifelong memories. It's important to me to have as much quality time with my wife and children as possible."

In February 2010, Oi Yin received heartbreaking news - she, a single, widowed mother, had become a cancer patient herself. Her children became sad and angry and Oi Yin saw her own CFL respite opportunity as a time for them to escape from cancer for a bit. To her, the trip also became a time to connect and remember special moments that they had years before with Rafael. Prayers for Geff Kelly

Dear Gerry,
Many thanks for your letter and the good news of our three alumni who exhibited such spirit, fidelity and leadership. I am late in informing you that I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Yesterday I had a CT-Scan with contrast injections and barium to detect if the cancerous cells in the two tissue samples of the recent biopsy had migrated to other lower body parts. I'll get the results on October 14th and on that date discuss with my urologist the possible treatmentj options, that include doing nothing since it is such a slow growing cancer. Also the cancerous cells showed up in only two of the 14 samples they sliced out of my prostate, so there is room for some optimism. I will appreciate the prayers of the brothers. It's especially difficult with Joan who continues with Susan's brain tumor and its complications and now may have to adjust to my own treatment schedule. We remain optimistic and prayerful. Thanks to the brother, families and friends, Sig Phi had another great night at The Riversharks and saw a very exciting baseball game as well. On a hot muggy night, the air conditioned box provided welcome relief from the heat outside. The adults found cooling refreshments just down the hall, and our younger guests were able to spot and engage vendors at a distance of several football fields. Sodas, pizza, cheesesteaks, and ice cream followed.
In the tradition of the event, some of the nearby boxes were breached by fraternal scavengers looking and finding drink and food for the taking. Tsk, tsk.

Thanks especially to the brothers who traveled some distance to be with us; Jeff Boyle (Tokyo) Ray Necci (Bristol, Ct,) John Vitalo, (Long Island) , and the ever reliable Dan Stecher of Ventor, NJ. It was fun seeing brothers with their parent (The Waddingtons, Raezers, and Rebls) and their children: The Schankweilers, McMahons, Krumenackers, Kerns, Stechers, and Rebls. I hope I did not miss anyone.

Thanks also to those brothers who sent a little extra to cover the actives.
With the proceeds, the fraterntiy will be able to send $200 to CFL and to the San Miguel School.

President’s Message 75th Anniversary Celebration of Sigma Phi Lambda Fraternity Saturday, May 22, 2010

First, I would like to thank all of the alumni who have come back to La Salle today to help keep the traditions of Sigma Phi Lambda alive in our 75th year. I would also like to thank our advisers: Doc Kelly, Vince Kling, and Pat Dalton. Their endless devotion to our fraternity is what keeps us alive and strong. Finally I would like to thank our moderator, Br. Gerry Molyneaux, without whom this day would not have been possible. Br. Gerry has dedicated his life to Sigma Phi Lambda, and I know that I speak for everyone when I say we are forever grateful.

I have shared many memories with my brothers throughout my three years at La Salle: Formals rush weeks, countless hours of studying and writing papers, games of Cardinal Puff and Stump, everyone’s favorite beverage, Pirate Wine, and the seemingly endless responsibilities it means to be a member of Sky Patrol. I have made memories that will last a lifetime and have established relationships that I will cherish forever.

But, being a brother is more than just having fun with your friends. A brother is someone you can count on to be there for you in good times and bad. A brother will help you out with anything you need whenever you ask. A brother is more than a friend; he is family.

Our brotherhood of Sigma Phi Lambda has been alive and strong for 75 years and with every new year, our fraternity grows and continues to keep our traditions of spirit, fidelity, and leadership alive. I am proud to be a brother in this fraternity and am proud to lead the fraternity as president. I greatly appreciate this scholarship award, and I promise to uphold the values of the fraternity in my last year at La Salle and beyond.

No one can predict what may come in the future of this fraternity, but I can assure you that whatever challenges may arise, we will confront them and persevere. Sigma Phi Lambda is La Salle, and La Salle is Sigma Phi Lambda. As long as this university stands, there will be Sigma Phi Lambda fraternity to guide its young men and instill in them great values and relationships that will last a lifetime.

I am excited to share that the response to our Ocean City Reunion on Friday July 16th is really taking off. Unfortunately, you and I are the only brothers who have RSVPd. In the sports section of today's Inquirer, you will find an article about the St. Joe's Prep Rowing team. Next Friday, their heavyweight eight is heading to the Henley Regatta in London. One of the rowers pictured and quoted is Steve Lezynski. That's Jerry's son, and to celebrate their brithdays this year, mom and dad will be on the banks of the river cheering on Steve and the Prep. Go get 'em, Hawks.

The article carries the dateline "West Chester, Pa.," and includes some information and quotes about the 16th annual West Chester University Poetry Conference, which I attended this past Friday and Saturday and at which Natalie Merchant participated in a Saturday afternoon panel conversation (with Dana and Mike) and gave a Saturday night concert.

75th Thanks

The Captains Table:

Thanks for all the notes about the 75th and for the appreciation of the event. Just realize that the kudos really belong to the guys in the trenches who were helping to organize the event and pushing all the brothers to be there. From the start, the Captains were generating the ideas that made our 75th celebration the jewel that it was. For example, it was John Fenton who guided us away from having it in Blue and Gold Commons and instead putting it outside and under the tent. What a perfect setting that was. Take a bow, John.
The captains also did a great job of recruiting and in the end, rounded up over 200 brothers. What was amazing was the even spread, about forty alums from each decade. Those numbers underscore the effectiveness of the work done by the Captains who were emailing and phoning and reminding, annoying and badgering guys to get there. Their good example seems to have inspired other brothers to join them in getting out the troops.
In a special way, we owe our thanks to Mike Diccicco who employed his loyalty to Sig Phi and his experience as alumni association president to help us make the right calls and get past the hurdles and who handled the MC job with good humor and flexibility. He sang pretty well too in that duet with Tom Lynch. Oh, and congrats Tom on your award and on the perfect rendition of the Brothers Song. You are the embodiment of ”unflagged spirit.”

La Salle University.
I have sent letters to La Salle Security, University Advancement, and Food Services thanking them in our behalf for the outstanding hospitality that they provided. We must have been pretty nice guests too, because someone kept that bar open for an extra 90 minutes.
The ease with which everything seemed to happen reflects all the competent and creative attention to detail that scores of people brought to insuring that our evening would be the memorable event that it was. What better place to celebrate La Salle’s fraternity and our 75th.

Jim Gulick
We owe a special debt to Jim Gulick. Jim met with the captains at the first meeting in February. The spirit of collaboration and good will that he showed at the meeting was a preamble to the sage advice and the tireless work that he did for us right up to the last hour. For the past three months, Jim was never more than a phone call away.

The Opening Ceremony
Thanks to Jason Kealy for the outstanding job he did with the PowerPoint Presentation. The editing of pictures and music was perfectly pitched to bring back the memories of all those years. Thanks also to the several speakers who represented their decades: Tom Lynch, Dan McDevitt , Ed Waddington and John Persichetti who stepped in at the last minute and provided some very inspirational messages, Mike Minghenelli, Eric Toppy and Max Tritz, and finally Matt Donnelly, Matt Elliott , and Rob Johnson. Unfortunately, we ran out time for 2000 group, but they politely adjusted and touched on the high points, poetically.

Congrats and thanks to President Dave Barba, winner of the Leadership Scholarship Award, for adding his insights into the state of the fraternity today. During the dinner all of us got to see Dave’s dedication as he, Tyler Batory, and John Vitalo sold the chances that got the actives out of the red and into the blue. They send their deep and sincere thanks to all the alums and especially to the winner Tony Nardi who kicked back the prize to the actives. Thanks, Tony.

Program: Thanks also to Pat Dalton who provided the program with the very eloquent history of the fraternity and the copies of the letter from Fr, John Guischard.
Shirts and Banner: Thanks to Andy Ciocco for the smart-looking golf shirts and to Craig Raezer for taking care of the 75th banner.
Awards: I hope you saw the awards. Those award plaques were the artistic handiwork of Bob Kane’68 who created them specifically for the 75th. Thanks, Mondo.

Closure: God how I wish we were doing it again tonight. For me, the best testimony to what the celebration was all about happened after the somewhat haphazard circle. (We need to work on that Captains.) But the moving and memorable image was this. After most brothers had cleared the field, there were the Committee of Explorers, our second founding fathers, just hanging with each other. I don’t know when they left; maybe they’re still up there on the 30 yard line. But if anybody wants to know what “in the bonds” means, well look no further.

Division of Student Affairs

Rules and Regulations for Summer Conference Guests * Summer

To ensure an environment suitable for our University and the activities of our guests, all must become familiar with and abide by the information in this document. Violations may result in loss of guest privileges, including campus housing.

Prohibited Behaviors

1. Physical or verbal abuse or harassment of any person on University premises, at University sponsored functions, or between any members or guests of the University community off University premises. This is to include incidents of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and racial harassment.
2. Theft from or damage to University property/premises. This is to include theft of or damage to property of a member or guest of the University community on University premises.
3. Failure to comply with the directions of University officials in the performance of their duties. This includes support staff such as Campus Security, Physical Facilities, and Community Development Staff.
4. Breeches of security/safety measures that could put at risk members or guests of the University community including improper possession/use of keys, combinations, propping open doors, etc.
5. Possession, use, or distribution of potentially dangerous drugs which are not medically supervised, to include being in the presence of the possession, use, or distribution of illegal substances on University premises or at University sponsored functions, and possession or use of paraphernalia to assist in the consumption of illegal substances.
6. Possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic beverages, except in accordance with our Guidelines for the Service of Alcohol at La Salle University Guest Events (see below).
7. Lewd, indecent, immoral or obscene conduct, including but not limited to violations of any law, regulation, or ordinance.
8. Violations of published University regulations, including those relating to entry and use of University resident units and other facilities, the rules in this document, and any other regulations [i.e. Library, Parking, etc.] that may be enacted.
9. Violation of University Policy on Weapons and Other Dangerous Articles and Substances (see below).
10. Violations of any federal, state, or local criminal law. (The University will cooperate fully with civil authorities in the enforcement of the law.)

Additional Rules and Regulations

1. Resident guests must carry their temporary La Salle identification cards with them at all times and must display them to University personnel for admission to our residences or otherwise upon request by University personnel.
2. Guests are not permitted to bring individuals or groups other than those registered for campus residence into our campus residences without the express permission of the Director of Continuing Studies or the Conference Services Coordinator.
3. The University does not assume legal obligation to pay for any loss of or any damage to guests' property if it occurs in its buildings or on its grounds prior to, during, or subsequent to the period of residence. Personal property insurance is recommended.
4. Guests are responsible for the accommodations and furnishings assigned and shall reimburse the University for all losses and damages done within or to said accommodations and furnishings. Guests may not remove any University furnishings. Guest groups are responsible for damages to common areas on their floors or in their buildings, such as walls, ceilings, floors, tiles, furnishings, doors, fire safety equipment, telephone and information network connection equipment, and other appurtenances if the person(s) responsible cannot be identified.
5. The University reserves the right of entry into a guest room during an emergency or for other purposes in accordance with University policy. Authorized University representatives shall have the right of inspection within guest rooms without prior authorization of the guest(s) at reasonable times for general maintenance/health/safety standards, preservation of the existing physical structure, identification of damage, and for enforcing University Rules and Regulations governing security and safety of University property. The University reserves the right to remove items belonging to the University or its agents which are in a guest's room without approval. The University will impose a removal fee.
6. Guests and guest groups agree to comply with the rules, regulations, and conditions as contained in this document. Guests are accountable for the behavioral conduct and physical contents within their assigned living accommodations should either represent a violation of University, federal, state or local regulation.
7. If any provision of this document shall be declared illegal or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

The University administration reserves the right to enact additional procedures it deems necessary to respond to foreseeable circumstances which may occur on University property. Such situations may meet the following criteria:

1. Events in which alcohol and/or large numbers of people are regarded as contributing to an
anticipated lack of civility, harm to people, or destruction of personal and/or University property.
2. Events during which threat to persons have occurred, and/or it seems likely that they may occur without intervention by University staff.

NOTE: The University reserves the right to alert non-campus law enforcement officials to problems on or off campus. Concerns most likely to be reported are those involving physical endangerment, illegal substances, or those resulting in complaints from the local community.

Guidelines for the Service of Alcohol at La Salle University Guest Events

Guests are not permitted to possess, distribute, or use alcoholic beverages, except in accordance with these guidelines. No alcohol is permitted on University property, except as outlined below.

Alcohol may be served at guest events only in accordance with guidelines available from and arrangements made with University Food Services. In all cases, no alcohol will be served to individuals under twenty-one (21) years of age or to individuals who are deemed by the servers to be intoxicated.

Public areas suitable for summer conference events at which alcohol is served are the various rooms of the La Salle Union, the St. Basil Group Lounge, the St. Basil Group Study, the St. Miguel Townhouse Complex Community Room, and the St. Neumann Gazebo. No alcohol is otherwise permitted in or around the student/guest residences.

Policy Statement on Weapons and Other Dangerous Articles and Substances

No guest or visitor may keep, possess, display, transport, or use any offensive weapons; firearms; ammunition; gunpowder; gas or air powered rifles, guns, or pistols; fireworks; explosives; or other dangerous articles and substances in University buildings, on University property, or at University functions in off-campus settings. Realistic facsimiles of these items are also prohibited, with reasonable exceptions made, in consultation with the Dean of Students, for theatrical productions and similar circumstances.

“Offensive weapon” is defined as any bomb, grenade, machine gun, sawed-off shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches, firearm specially made or specially adapted for concealment or silent discharge, any blackjack, sandbag, metal knuckles, dagger, knife, razor or cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism or otherwise, any stun gun, stun baton, taser or other electronic or electric weapons or other implements for the infliction of serious bodily injury which serves no common lawful purpose.

“Firearms” include any weapon which is designed to or may readily be converted to expel any projectile by the action of an explosive, or the frame or receiver of any such weapon.

Normal laboratory materials are excluded from this policy when used in an academic laboratory setting to fulfill course requirements or conduct research authorized and supervised by La Salle University faculty. Members of the La Salle University Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) are authorized to store, transport, and use firearms when performing functions associated with their official duties. Active public law enforcement officers are authorized to store, transport, and use firearms when performing functions associated with their official duties or when attending class.

Property Searches

University employees may ask guests to reveal the contents of book bags, etc. if there is probable cause to believe a violation of federal, state, or local laws or University regulations is occurring. If a guest refuses to cooperate with such a request while entering a building or area, the guest may be prohibited from entering with the article(s) in question. If a guest refuses such a request while departing a building or area, the guest may be detained with the article(s) in question for further investigation by University staff.

Dear Brothers of Sigma Phi Lambda,

On behalf of La Salle University, we want to welcome you back to campus for this special celebration - Sigma Phi Lambda’s 75th Anniversary. This occasion provides the perfect opportunity to revisit memories, reunite with classmates, fraternity brothers and friends, and rediscover our beautiful and ever-changing campus.

The University has partnered with us to put together a weekend full of activity culminating with a fabulous dinner, a Vegas-style after-party, and the largest “circle” in Sigma Phi Lambda history. There’s something for everyone this weekend.

Friday May 21
On campus overnight accommodations for Friday and Saturday nights are available in the Townhouses, $60.00 per night. Each unit accommodates one to five guests.

5:00 to 7:00. Happy Hour at McFaddens at Citizens Bank Ball Park. $15 for just the happy hour and not the game.

Saturday May 22

There is an optional lunch at noon ($15.00)

Three different tours of the university (no charge)
Belfield Estate and Historic Peale House (noon),
Campus Riding Tour (2:30), this bus will include south and west campus, Shoppes at La Salle, and the new science center at Holroyd ‘75 Hall.

Opening 75th Anniversary Ceremony Dan Rodden ’40 Theater

4:45 Reunion Liturgy College Hall lower level (former home of the C.O.E.).

8:30 Night in Vegas Party on main quad includes prizes for fun blackjack, crap, roulette games; open bar, desserts, and DJ and dancing

10:00 The 75th Anniversary Circle under the lights on the football field.

Party continues until midnight

Dear Brother Michael

On behalf of the alumni and active brothers of Sigma Phi Fraternity, I want to offer our sincere thanks to you, Brian Elderton, Matt McManness, Jim Moore, Tom Brennan, and Jim Gulick, for hosting the 75th Anniversary celebration of Sigma Phi Lambda Fraternity. I also want to express our deep appreciation to Candy Hagamin, Kyra Spoto, Julie Morrison, and Alan Wendell for their continued support and almost daily attention to our needs.

Let me first thank you for allowing us to have the event on the La Salle campus and in conjunction with Alumni Weekend. We know that the permission involved many challenges for the university and therefore appreciate all the more your kind hospitality.

Very generously, you have opened the gates and doors of the entire campus: tennis courts, quadrangle, football field, townhouses, chapel, and Rodden Theater for our use this weekend.
You have also added special staff for the event in a way that will insure our enjoying the celebration. We have already seen how Jim Gulick and Candy Hagamin have worked so very hard to inform the brothers of the activities, to encourage their participation, and to register over 175 brothers for the event.

We are also aware of the many extra steps that have been taken to add to the celebratory tone. The special tent over the tennis courts, the decoration of the dining area and the theater, the lighting of the football field, and the providing of musicians who will serenade us at dinner, these are all part of the refinements that you are providing for our enjoyment of the day.

Jim Gulick has told us that the university is extending its welcome partly because the fraternity has a long history of contributions to the university, most notably as members of the board of trustees, President’s Council of Associates, and the alumni board as well. I want to thank all of you for that special and generous recognition of our a fraternity whose mission is to promote spirit, fidelity, and leadership on campus. My hope is that this 75th Anniversary Celebration will be a highlight of our ongoing collaboration.

The alumni brothers and I look forward to personally thanking you, Bro. Michael, as well as your administrative staff and the many key players as our paths cross this weekend.

ABOUT 10 OR 12 YEARS AGO, AN ENDOWMENT FUND WAS ESTABLISHED TO REWARD SIG PHI'S PRESIDENT EVERY YEAR WITH THE INTEREST EARNED FROM THE FUNDS IN THE ENDOWMENT ACCOUNT WHICH WAS CALLED THE SIGMA PHI LAMBDA LEADERSHIP GRANT PROGRAM. THE IDEA HERE WAS THAT THIS ANNUAL GRANT WOULD HELP ENCOURAGE QUALITY LEADERSHIP AND SERVE AS A POSITIVE, VISIBLE SIGN OF SUPPORT TO THE UNDERGRADUATE BROTHERS, BOTH PRESENT AND FUTURE. THE UNIVERSITY RUNS THE ENDOWMENT THROUGH THE FINANCIAL AFFAIRS OFFICE.

NO OTHER FRATERNITY, CERTAINLY AT LASALLE OR ANY OTHER PLACE THAT I AM AWARE OF, HAS THIS KIND OF FINANCIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AND CONTINUITY. AT THIS TIME OF OUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY IT WOULD BE VERY APPROPRIATE FOR US TO INCREASE THIS FUND IN APPRECIATION OF EVERYTHING THAT THE FRATERNITY HAS GIVEN US OVER ALL OF THESE YEARS. I AM ESPECIALLY ASKING THE BROTHERS OF THE CLASSES OF THE 60'S AND 70'S TO CONSIDER A SIGNIFICANT GIFT OF APPRECIATION. Registering for 75th/ special gifts

We are rapidly closing in on the two hundred mark for the 75th. Your next step is to confirm your reservation. By now you have received the reservation card, and you may use it. Just fill it out and send it back. You can also register by calling 215-991 3629.

At the bottom of the registration card, you will see a space for "class gift." You can use that space to designate your 75th anniversary gift to the fraternity. If you phone in your reservation, you can also designate money for the fraternity 75th anniversary gift. Here are two options:

1. the Sigma Phi lambda Leadership Scholarship Fund. Started by Tom Lynch and supported by many alumni brothers, this fund provides a scholarship for the president of the fraternity so that he can spend more time leading the fraternity and less time working part-time jobs. The more money in the principle, the greater the interest; the greater the interest, the bigger the scholarship grant. Your donation will keep on giving to the fraternity as each new president gets the grant. Currently, it's worth about $1500. In light of the $30,000 cost for a year at La Salle, we need to increase the amount of that grant.

2. The Sigma Phi Lambda Alumni Fund. While we want to maintain the system whereby the active brothers as responsible for the day to day financing of the fraternity. We also can cut them some slack.
The money in this fund provides for things that enrich the experience of brotherhood and adds class to the fraternity. We have used it for banners, jackets for the new brothers, a new pledge manual, and to cover the cost of attending 75th.
On occasion, the money has also bailed out the fraternity, for example, by completing the payment for the composite. This is a fund beloved by the executive board since it takes some of the economic pressure off them for things like alumni day, which has been coming out of the actives' budget.

Please consider making a special donation to the fraternity this year.

Most Exotic Lifestyle Award
Tony Mecklenburg ’62 will not be able to make it to the 75th that’s because he lives in the far reaches of Alaska, because it is salmon season, and because a salmon stream runs right beside the house he built. . Clearly he is one candidate for the most exotic lifestyle award, even though he is also an academic.
Our second candidate is Ed Persichetti ‘04, who captains yachts that sail the Caribbean and beyond, I will allow his description to speak for itself

Yes its taken me this long to get back to you Brother Gerry...like I told my Uncle, (John Persichetti ;82) that the Bahamian Internet is much like their work ethic....only work a little or don't work at all.
Anyway, all I can say is if I am not working that weekend and near an airport, I'm there. No doubt about it! My present boss works last minute and it drives me nuts. I know I will be back in the states by then; so that's good. My hair is down to my shoulders, and I'm darker than a tanned retiree living in South Florida so its time to head home anyway.
Making plans has never worked well with this industry. Sucks.
Anyway, I do get your updates and all your e-mails and I love them!

Its amazing to be thousands of miles away sometimes off shore hundreds of miles and read the updates with Sig Phi.....wouldn't have it any other way. Anyway, that's where I stand. Thanks for the update and Ill keep you posted...thanks Brother Gerry...Hope all is well!

Here is the updated list of brothers indicating that they would be attending the 75th Anniversary celebration of Saturday, May 22. Make sure you confirm your reservation with the alumni office; 215 991 3629.

As you know from the alumni office invitation, Saturday afternoon starts with optional lunch, followed by tours of the campus and then by our opening ceremony at 3:30 in the Rodden Theater. The alumni reunion mass is at 4:45 and will be followed by the cocktail hour and dinner the by the Las Vegas night and THE CIRCLE.

Some groups of brothers are playing golf on Friday afternoon. Many others will be attending the two-hour reception at McFadden's at Citizen's Bank Ball Park and still other by attending the game, Red Sox VS the Phillies.

Don't forget to inquire about housing on campus. It's very affordable.

Alumni of Sigma Phi Lambda Fraternity,

This e-mail is just a reminder of our upcoming events. Hopefully some of you have reserved this weekend to make a trip to Philly as we have "Lambda Bowling" on Friday and "Alumni Day" on Saturday. The bowling alley is located at the corner of Rhawn St. and the Roosevelt Blvd. The actives will be leaving with the pledges on a bus from La Salle at 9:45 PM and will be expecting to arrive at the bowling alley around 10:30. We have reserved a few lanes and I believe the cost to bowl is $17 per person.
Alumni Day will be taking place at Craig Raezer's house. His address is 3475 Indian Queen Lane Philadelphia, PA 19129. The event will be starting at 12 noon and will go on until the alumni get sick of harassing the pledges. As usual, the pledges are looking forward to a "fun weekend" and have no idea what is in store for them so I hope many of you can come to these events and keep the tradition alive.
Also, I would like to inform you that the executive board, the active brothers, and the advisors have agreed to extend the pledge period. We settled on this decision because the original way the pledge period was set up left us with hardly any time to prepare for Greek Week. Seeing as how this is our 75th Annibersary this year, the active brothers really wanted to put a lot of effort into this week with the pledges so we can try and bring home a trophy for Sig Phi. Alumni of Sigma Phi Lambda,

Seeing as how next week is Spring Break, I thought this would be a good time to update you on the fraternity. First, I would like to thank those alumni who participated in our 3v3 Basketball Tournament and those who made donations for the cause. With your help we were able to raise around $2,000 for the San Miguel School in Camden, NJ. As always, we look forward to helping the school in the future.
This year we have also continued to help the Corssing the Finish Line Organization by volunteering our time at their Gala event. This year, the proceeds of our annual Susan B. Kelly Volleyball Tournament will be going to the CFL. We will also be helping the CFL with their Fashion Show, which will be in April.
This semester has been going very well so far. All of the active brothers went into Rush Week confident that we would end the week with a strong pledge class, and so we did. We have 10 great guys pledging our fraternity right now. This group is the most diverse pledge class there has been in recent memory with guys representing different races, academic standings, and sports teams. We can all tell that the pledges are really into the fraternity and are working very hard to become brothers. So far we have had a very successful "Jeopardy" night and "Lack of Talent" night. With 3 weeks left in the pledge period, there is definitely still more to come. Which brings me to my next topic.
For those of you who don't know, I have created a "Sig Phi" friend on facebook. I have also created an event on facebook entitled "Pledge Period" which contains the full list of dates for the pledge period. But, for those of you who are not members of facebook, here are the remaining imortant dates for the Pledge Period:

Some of the money went to buy Sigma Phi Lambda jackets for the new brothers. They are now proudly wearing their jackets on campus and attracting babes galore. The brothers will be sending their thanks. First in line is Mike Pica, now the pledge master for spring 2010. Mike is a junior from Hamilton, NJ, and Notre Dame HS grad who is majoring in nutrition.
